Presenting The Free Burton Concert Series Line-Up At The 2018 U·S·OPEN
The Burton U·S·Open Snowboarding Championships are taking over Vail, Colorado, March 5-10 and we're bringing the FREE Burton Concert Series with us.
The Burton U·S·Open may be the world’s greatest snowboard event, but there’s a whole lot more to it than just incredible riding. For 36-years and counting, it’s been an event built around progression both on and off the mountain. FREE concerts are a long-running U·S·Open tradition, serving as another layer of entertainment to keep the excitement going all night.
This year, once again, the Burton U·S·Open will rock Vail Village with a massive line-up of 19 musical artists set to perform nightly on the Solaris outdoor concert stage in the heart of the village, and at the newly added Shakedown Bar indoor venue. Vail Village will be host to more FREE music than ever before during the 36th annual Burton U·S·Open. On Monday at the Shakedown Bar, we ease into the Burton Concert Series with a special treat all the way from Arkansas as the Kory Montgomery Band delivers a fusion of blues, funk, and jazz. The jams continue on Tuesday at the Shakedown Bar with Eddie Roberts and Wally Ingram Super Jam. Eddie Roberts brings his visceral and funky guitar playing to the stage at the Shakedown Bar along with renowned percussionist Wally Ingram (of the band Timbuk3).
On Wednesday, one of the premier soul bands in the country, Monophonics will headline the first of four nights of performances on the Solaris concert stage. Charleston, South Carolina’s Dangermuffin will have the honors of opening the night. This island-influenced, folk and jam quartet puts on an upbeat live show that’ll have you dancing in your boots. Inside at the Shakedown Bar, the live music continues late night with local legends Town Cavalry playing a mix of rock, blues, reggae, funk, and country covers.
Baltimore jam band Pigeons Playing Ping Pong will hit the Solaris concert stage Thursday with a double-set blending infectious funk grooves, psychedelic jams, and experimental electronics. Before the concert, après at the Shakedown Bar with Dean Ween & Friends—a must-see for Ween fans or simply anyone who’s down to get weird. The New Orleans Suspects take the night shift at the Shakedown Bar with their swamp-rocking saxophones bringing Mardi Gras party vibes to the village.
Michigan-born singer songwriter BØRNS, aka Garrett Borns, will bring his danceable indie-pop ballads to the Solaris concert stage on Friday night. Get ready to be won over by BØRNS’ captivating stage presence. Psych pop standouts Madaila will be the opening act. This highly danceable pop band, hailing from Burton’s hometown of Burlington, Vermont, promises to build some heat as they get the crowd moving.
After the concert at Solaris, switch gears and head to the Shakedown Bar for The Medallions. You might notice that this time-traveling 70s disco-funk band bears a striking resemblance to the psych pop band Madaila you just saw perform at Solaris. Strange, indeed. Either way, the party music will be on tap and dance resistance is futile.
Saturday night on the Solaris concert stage will be a night to remember for reggae fans. We’ll get you moving with DJs Tosheba and Nickel B as they celebrate their 20th anniversary of performing as the reggae sound system Itation Sound. Then Grammy award winning performer Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley takes the stage. The youngest son of the legend Bob Marley has rocked sold-out stadium venues with rousing sets of reggae roots jams and dancehall bangers. This is one show you definitely won’t want to miss.
After the concert at Solaris, the party continues at the Shakedown Bar with the incredible mashup of Americana rock ‘n’ roll band Brothers Keeper and special guest Dean Ween putting on a uniquely rowdy and memorable set.
The closing party at Dobson Ice Arena on Saturday night will be a one-two-three punch of DJs, featuring DJ Cre8, Deejay Theory, and DJ Hedspin. Burlington, Vermont’s DJ Cre8 will bring breakbeats and soul hits to get the party started. The legendary Deejay Theory will show no mercy as he drops his own blend of explosive “tropical bass” melding island music with a hip-hop and electronic background. And the DJ dubbed “the World's Best Party Rocker DJ” at the 2011 Red Bull Thre3style World Championship, DJ Hedspin, will hit hard with an aggressive rapid-fire delivery to keep you moving.
