E-Biking and Splitboarding in Australia's High Country

In Spring, choosing between snowboarding and mountain biking can sometimes be a hard decision. But why choose one when you can have both?

Spring in Australia is a good time.

Winter temperatures become a distant memory, the days get longer, the sun comes out and in a good year, the snow can stick around until the end of November. It's a great time to get out and explore the terrain beyond the resort, but Spring is also the time when biking season really kicks into gear (pun intended). Choosing between snowboarding and mountain biking can sometimes be a hard decision.

But why choose one when you can have both?

It was this mentality that inspired a recent day trip for a crew of Burton Ambassadors in Jindabyne, Australia – a crew that enjoy the mountains equally on bike or board.

The plan was to pack the splitboard gear, bike to the top of Thredbo Resort, take a few runs, and bike back down.

But cycling uphill with a bunch of splitboard gear strapped to your pack is no easy feat. Enter the e-mountain bike. Modern e-bikes allow for easier uphill travel and can make accessing zones that would take hours to hike much more attainable. With the help of our friends at Trek, the crew had their two modes of transport dialed.

With the ascent complete, it was a quick changeover, and with tour mode engaged, sights were set on the spring time corn harvest – spring turns!

In the summer, Thredbo Resort becomes one of Australia's premier mountain bike destinations, and with the snowboarding portion of the trip complete, it was time to change apparatus for the other type of downhill descent. Job done.

With the assistance of an e-bike, the possibilities are endless. We can't wait to see what the crew comes up with next!
