Everything You Need to Know About Burton Riglet

Teaching kids to snowboard has never been easier with Burton Riglet parks, programs, and gear. In collaboration with key Resort Partners around the world, Burton Riglet Snowboarding was designed to create a fun and engaging environment for kids to find success with snowboarding from a young age, and get families riding together.

A cornerstone of Burton Riglet Snowboarding is having fun; because when kids have fun standing sideways, they fall in love with snowboarding. And at the end of the day, sharing our love of snowboarding with our kids is what this is all about.

What is Riglet Snowboarding?

Burton Riglet Parks

Riglet Parks are built to attract kids using a playground-like setting that keeps things interesting and exciting. But it’s more than just “looking fun”—these parks are carefully designed to help kids work on the fundamentals of snowboarding. Using unique and brightly colored features, kids focus on playtime while learning basic snowboarding techniques and foundational skills that can later be applied to the rest of the mountain (when they’re ready).

Riglet Parks focus on developing skills like stability, balance, edge control and the general feeling of sliding on snow.

Types of Riglet Parks

  • Permanent Riglet Parks: Some resorts offer a permanent Riglet Park installation and accompanying lessons with skilled instructors.
  • Temporary Riglet Parks: Often created for special events, pop-up Riglet Parks offer the same amount of fun and action, on and off snow.

Burton Riglet Programs

There are several different types of programs available from Burton Riglet Snowboarding, and each one has been developed around a specific location. And a great thing about Riglet is that it can bring snowboarding to anyone, anywhere—from cities to schools to playgrounds to beaches—no snow needed.

Types of Riglet Programs

  • Riglet Park Event (On-Snow/Resort): On-Snow Riglet programs provide plenty of fun and learning for the kids, no matter their ability level.
  • Riglet Park Event (On-Snow/City): With just a little bit of snow, a Riglet Park can be built almost anywhere, including pop-up events in a city near you—no mountain needed.
  • Riglet Park Event (Off-Snow/City): With innovative gear and tools, snow is no longer a requirement for introductory snowboarding. In fact, this type of event can be hosted literally anywhere you can think of.
  • Riglet Park Event (School): Burton’s team of passionate partners and coaches has created an entire physical education (PE) curriculum for elementary/middle schools so that kids can learn the basics of snowboarding right in gym class.

Burton Riglet Gear

Burton has been developing kids’ snowboarding gear for decades, using feedback from partner resorts, team riders with kids, employees with kids, and kids themselves. The result is the most durable, intuitive, and fun snowboard products available.

Burton Kids’ Snowboards

Burton Kids’ Snowboards are perfect for a Riglet Park or for any learning area. Popular boards like the Burton Chopper, Burton Chicklet, and Burton After School Special all feature a Flat Top™ profile with a forgiving edge bevel for an easy ride with less caught edges. These snowboards also utilize a twin shape and twin flex, so learning kids can ride whichever way feels most comfortable for them.

The Chopper and Chicklet are available in kids’ sizes from 80cm-130cm and come pre-drilled with holes on the tip and tail for mounting a Burton Riglet Reel (on boards sized 80cm-120cm).

The After School Special comes with Burton Grom bindings in sizes 80cm-100cm and pre-drilled holes for a Riglet Reel.

For indoor programs, a Burton Riglet Snowboard can be paired with the Burton Hover Cover for easy gliding on hard surface floors.

Burton Room-to-Grow Snowboard Boots

Burton Room-to-Grow is a set of proprietary technologies that are integrated directly into select kids’ snowboard boots (and outerwear) that allows for the sizing to be (literally) expanded. Room-to-Grow increases the useful life of youth gear while keeping even the youngest riders cozy and comfortable all day long, for more than one season.

To adjust the size of the snowboard boots to fit your child’s growing foot, simply remove the footbed and use the boot with the integrated secondary footbed that is a size larger (and provides the same cushioning and support).

The Handlebar from Burton

The Handlebar from Burton is an adjustable grab bar that can be attached to any Burton kids’ snowboard sized 80cm–110cm. The Handlebar invites kids into the sport of snowboarding no matter the season or the footwear, just hop onto the board, grab onto the bar and go. This tool helps kids get comfortable sliding on snow while giving them the extra stability of something to hold onto. And similar to bicycle training wheels, parents can easily add The Handlebar to a child’s snowboard and then simply remove it when it’s no longer needed.
