User guide for Step On Grom
How it Works
The Burton Step On Grom binding system simplifies the boot, binding interface by creating a convenient, user-friendly system that eliminates the hassle of traditional binding straps. It's made specifically for the youngest riders and works a little differently than the adult Step On® binding, so read on!
Boots: Burton Step On snowboard boots feature toe cleats and a heel cleat that align with the Step On® Grom bindings for a simple, secure connection.
Bindings: Burton Step On Grom bindings use toe hooks and a heel clip that align with the Step On Grom boots for a simple, secure connection. The binding has three release levers, one on the heel to disengage the heel clip, and one at each toe hook to release the toe.

Part Terminology
Toe Cleats
Located on both sides of the boot toe, the toe cleats keep the boot toe aligned and connected to the Step On Grom binding.
Toe Hooks
Located on the Step On baseplate, the Toe Hooks align and hold your boot toe into place. Their spring-loaded hinge design automatically connects with the boot and lets you enter and exit the baseplate with a single motion.
Toe Release Levers
There are two Toe Release Levers, one at each toe hook. While not required to step out of the binding, releasing at least one of the Toe Release Levers makes it easier to step out of the binding. Just push the lever down to disengage the toe hook. The levers automatically reset after stepping out, so you can step back in anytime.
Cuff Clip
Located on the back of the boot, the Cuff Clip keeps pant cuffs from interfering with the Heel Cleat.
Heel Cleat
The Step On® Grom Heel Clip features oversize guides for easy boot alignment and automatically locks the boot into the binding. Similar to a ratchet buckle, it uses our Smooth Glide® technology for easy engagement and secure hold.
Heel Clip
The Release Lever is located on the side of the binding heel cup and is used to release the boot. Just pull the lever up, let it go, and step out. The lever automatically resets after stepping out, so you can step back in anytime.

The Heel Release Lever is located on the heel cup and is used to release the boot. Just PUSH the lever DOWN, let it go, and step out. The lever automatically resets after stepping out, so you can step back in anytime.

Sizing to Bindings
Size matters. Before using the Step On Grom system, confirm the boot and binding size match.

BOA® Fit System

Step 1:
PULL the dial out to fully release the BOA® Fit System and effortlessly open the boot.
Step 2:
PUSH the dial in to engage the BOA® Fit System. Turn dial CLOCKWISE to tighten and snug down the boot.

Cuff Clip
For a secure binding connection, your pant cuffs must be clear of the heel cleat before stepping onto each binding. To make it easy, Step On® boots have a Cuff Clip on the back of the boot. Simply slide the pant cuff (not the elastic gaiter) down the back of the boot and into the Cuff Clip. Always confirm cuffs are in the clip before you engage the boot and binding.
Bindings
Size Adjustment
You must adjust binding width to the correct boot size before using the Step On Grom binding. Size adjustments can be made with the binding mounted on the board or before it has been mounted.
STEP 1:
Confirm boot size. Step On Grom Bindings are compatible with Step On® Grom Boots sizes 11C – 2K.
STEP 2:
Locate the three BLUE screws required for size adjustment on each binding.
STEP 3:
A. Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver loosen the screw nearest the medial toe hook.
B. Adjust the position of the medial toe hook so that the size indicators line up with the rider's boot size.
C. Tighten the screws to secure binding into position.
STEP 4:
A. Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver loosen the screws located inside the heel cup.
B. Adjust the position of the heel cup so that the size indicators line up with the rider's boot size.
C. Tighten the screws to secure binding into position.

Mounting Compatibility
Burton Step On® Grom bindings uses a disc mounting system that is compatible with all current major snowboard mounting systems including 4x4, 3D®, and The Channel®.
Leash Up
Always use a leash when riding and when on a lift. If you are riding a gondola or hiking, simply attach the leash clip to itself on the binding to keep it out of the way.
Heel Cleat Engagement
The Step On® Grom binding heel mechanism has two positions:
Position 1: The initial heel engagement position allows you to lock your heel into the binding with snow under your boot.
Position 2: The final heel engagement position is the ideal riding position and requires putting additional pressure onto the heel of the boot.
Both positions offer full retention, but you may notice additional boot movement when riding in Position 1 depending on the amount of snow underfoot.

Getting In
Ready. Set: Heel, Toe, Go
Step 1:
Make sure the boot sole and the binding are clean of snow, ice, dirt, and debris, the boots are tight, and the pant cuffs are tucked into the boot cuff clips so they are out of the way of the heel cleat.
Step 2:
Starting with your front foot, position your foot over the binding, and slide your boot heel down the hiback until the heel cleat engages with binding heel clip and locks into place.
Step 3:
Shift your weight forward, and push your toe downward until the toe cleats snap into the toe hooks. If either of the toe cleats does not fully engage, just roll your boot slightly from side to side. When both toe cleats snap in, the boot is secure.
Step 4:
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 using your back foot, and you're ready to ride.
ALWAYS CONFIRM ALL BOOT AND BINDING CONTACT POINTS ARE SECURELY ENGAGED BEFORE YOU START TO RIDE. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY.

STEP 2:
Optional - PUSH DOWN on the Toe Levers until they snap into “pre-release” position. The levers will stay DOWN until the rider lifts up on the boot.
STEP 3:
LET GO of the levers, stand up, and step out of the binding.
STEP 1:
PUSH DOWN on the Heel Lever until it snaps into “pre-release” position and let go of lever. The lever will stay DOWN until the rider lifts up on the boot.
STEP 2:

Step On might be easy to use, but snowboarding is risky business that can result in serious injury or death. Step On bindings are the best in their class, but they are not designed to release or to prevent injury as a result of the inherent risks associated with snowboarding.
The best protection you have against injury is yourself.
- Before heading to the mountain, make sure to read this instruction manual, follow all instructions, and learn to ride.
- Accept the risks you can handle without putting others at risk.
- Always ride under control and within your abilities.
- Be aware that use of a terrain park requires greater riding skills and recognize that there are bumps, ridges and other features that pose greater hazards.
- Always be aware of continually changing weather, visibility, and surface conditions.
- Be prepared to stop at all times.
- Be sure to regularly clean and inspect all screws, hardware, and adjustments on your Step On boots and Step On bindings.
A runaway snowboard is a dangerous thing. When not attached to your feet, a snowboard can slide away and cause serious injuries. Remember, only YOU can prevent your snowboard from hurting others. Make sure your snowboard doesn't fall off a rack or get dropped when you're hiking. In compliance with ISO Code 14573, you are required to use a leash at all times while snowboarding. The leash must be attached to the binding by looping it through the notch on the interior side of the front foot baseplate, and securely fastened to your body on the other end. No one gets hurt, and we all ride another day!
