Burton Grom Bindings: Developed with Input from Kids and Parents

Burton Grom Bindings: Freestyle rail jib

One of the reasons that kids (and parents) love Burton's youth snowboard bindings is that they are based on real input from riders and their families. Burton binding engineers collected decades of on-hill feedback to identify the unique challenges that children encounter while snowboarding and applied those insights to create the most kid-friendly snowboard bindings available. The result? Burton Grom bindings.

Easy-to-Operate Designs

Burton Grom Bindings: Step On Grom toe release lever

Independence on the mountain is a big part of falling in love with snowboarding and we believe that kids should be able to operate their gear all on their own. To make that a reality, we focused on designing Burton Grom snowboard bindings specifically for tiny hands. And to create these easy-to-operate youth bindings, we added oversized buckles and release levers, and simplified the straps. But we quickly realized that some features weren’t as intuitive for the youngest of shredders, so we went back to the drawing board and literally re-engineered certain components with ease-of-use in mind. For example, the release lever on Step On® Grom bindings operates with a push instead of a pull (a decision based on real-world testing with kids).

Pro tip: These simplified controls extend beyond Grom bindings to the entire line of kids’ snowboard boots and toddlers’ snowboard boots, which feature oversized BOA® dials and easy-to-use hook and loop closure straps.

Thanks to a universal disc mounting interface, Kids’ Grom Disc bindings are compatible with nearly every major snowboard mounting system available, including 3-hole, 4-hole, and The Channel™.

Toddlers’ Burton Mini Grom Disc snowboard bindings are our smallest bindings, designed to fit itty-bitty boots ranging from US size 7C to 13C (Mondo 13.5-19.5). The single Smack-It Ratchet buckle makes strapping in to Mini Grom bindings quick and painless and ensures a comfortable fit for these soft-flexing bindings.

The Mini Grom’s reliable polycarbonate construction combined with its universally compatible disc mounting interface means that these bindings are ready to grow with your little one as they graduate from the introductory Riglet snowboard to the Mini Grom. How to Install & Adjust Burton Grom Bindings

Burton Grom Bindings: Grom boots, board, bindings lineup

As of 2024, all Grom bindings feature a standard disc interface that is compatible with most major mounting patterns, including 3-hole, 4-hole, and The Channel, simplifying the process of getting your kid’s setup dialed in.

To install Grom bindings, you’ll need a compatible youth snowboard, the bindings (and included hardware), and a Philips screwdriver.

Installing Burton Grom Bindings: Step by Step Instructions

  1. Determine stance footedness: Begin by determining if your child is goofy or regular. There are several ways to confirm this, but we generally recommend starting with The Slide Test. While wearing thick socks on a wood or vinyl floor, have your child run and see how far they can slide. Whichever foot is in front during their slide is most likely the foot that should be in front for their snowboard stance. Review Goofy vs. Regular: The Official Guide to Snowboard Stances for more information on how to set up your kid’s stance.
  2. Identify the front of the snowboard: If the snowboard is directional, the nose (front) of the snowboard will likely be slightly longer than the tail (back). The nose may also be rounded, while the tail is flatter. If your child’s snowboard is a twin, it is perfectly symmetrical and you may need to reference the graphics for more guidance.
  3. Position the bindings: Place your child’s snowboard on a padded surface (like a carpeted floor) and position the bindings over the mounting inserts, with the front binding positioned correctly at the front of the snowboard. Insert the mounting hardware and loosely tighten the bindings so that your child can stand in them. Help your child pick a stance width and binding angles that are comfortable for them.
  4. Tighten down binding mounting hardware: Using a hand-held screwdriver, tighten down the binding mounting hardware

Pro tip: Never use power tools to install snowboard bindings. Power tools can damage the mounting inserts, mounting discs, and/or baseplates. Instead, use a hand-held Philips screwdriver and tighten until you experience moderate resistance. Additionally, never use any thread-lock products.

Burton Grom Bindings: Kids at the hill

We designed Burton Grom bindings to be simple to install and easy to use. But that doesn't mean we don’t still get a variety of questions from families, just like yours. Review these frequently asked questions about Burton grom bindings.

Q: How do I know if my child is goofy or regular?
A: There are a few different ways to determine if your child should be riding with a goofy or regular stance. The floor sliding test is one of the easiest. While wearing socks, have your child run and slide on a wood or vinyl floor. The orientation of their feet when they slide should reveal their snowboard stance (left foot forward or right foot forward). For more information about snowboard stances, including other ways to determine footedness, read Goofy vs. Regular: The Official Guide to Snowboard Stances.

Q: Are Kids’ and Toddlers’ Burton Grom snowboard bindings compatible with non-Burton snowboards?
A: Burton Grom snowboard bindings, which feature a disc mounting system, are compatible with just about every snowboard available, including three-hole, four-hole, and The Channel mounting interfaces. If you need help determining compatibility, please contact the ever helpful Burton Guides for assistance.

Q: Are Burton Grom snowboard bindings covered by a warranty?
A: Burton kids’ and toddlers’ Grom snowboard bindings carry a one-year warranty from the date of purchase on buckles, straps, and hibacks, and a lifetime warranty on the baseplates. Review the Burton warranty for all the details.
