How to Install a Burton Luggage Wheel Replacement Kit
When your Burton rolling luggage don’t roll no mo’, it’s time to perform a luggage wheel replacement. This easy repair can be performed by anyone with a good attitude and a Burton wheel kit, which includes a fresh set of wheels, bearings, two axles, and an installation tool.
In this short guide, we’ll give you step-by-step instructions on how to complete a luggage wheel replacement at home. We've also included a step-by-step video of the wheel replacement process which can be found at the bottom of this page.
Why Repair Your Rolling Luggage?
You invested in Burton gear because it’s high-quality and built to last. But even the best equipment isn’t indestructible. This is especially true for things with moving parts, like the wheels on our two-wheeled rolling luggage and wheeled snowboard bags.
But why would you want to go through the process of performing a luggage wheel replacement instead of just getting a new piece of luggage? Because we’ll literally give you a wheel replacement kit for free (if the replacement falls under our limited Lifetime Warranty). Also, we care about the impact our business has on the environment. It's the reason we'd rather help repair your equipment then see it end up in a landfill.
How do I get a Burton Luggage Wheel Replacement Kit?
If your Burton luggage or wheeled snowboard bag needs a wheel replacement, you’ll want to begin by reviewing the Burton Lifetime Warranty. If your item is covered under warranty, we’ll be happy to provide you with a wheel replacement kit for free. But don’t stress, because even if your repair isn’t covered by warranty, we’ll still do our best to hook you up at a reasonable cost.
To request a wheel replacement kit, fill out the Request Spare Parts form. To make sure we provide you with the correct wheels, please include as much information as possible.

Performing a Luggage Wheel Replacement: Step-by-Step Instructions
Once you’ve received a wheel replacement kit, make sure that it has all the parts you need, including two wheels with bearings, two axles, and an installation tool.
Step 1: Identify the Left & Right Side of the Roller Luggage

Begin by identifying the left and right sides of your roller bag. The easiest way to do this is by looking for the “R” (right side) and “L” (left side) markings which should be visible in the center of axle heads.
Step 2: Remove the Left Wheel & Axle

Remove the left wheel and axle using the supplied tool. To do this, insert the tool into the axle and spin it COUNTER CLOCKWISE until the axle is no longer engaged and can be pulled out.
Step 3: Remove the Right Wheel & Axle

Remove the right wheel and axle by spinning the tool CLOCKWISE until the axle is no longer engaged and can be pulled out.
Step 4: Verify that the New Axles Fit

Before installing the new wheels, try the axles alone without the wheels and verify that the threads match. Remember that the “R” right axle is reverse threaded and will only screw into the right side of the roller bag. Attempting to screw the axles into the wrong sides of the roller bag will damage the threads.
Step 5: Install the New Left Axle & Wheel

Place the wheel into position and install the axle through the wheel into the axle housing. For the left wheel, tighten by spinning the tool CLOCKWISE. Caution: Do not over-torque (over-tighten) the axle.
Step 6: Install new right-side axle & wheel

Place the wheel into position and install the axle through the wheel into the axle housing. For the right wheel, tighten by spinning the tool COUNTER CLOCKWISE. Caution: Do not over-torque (over-tighten) the axle.
Step 7: Resume Travelling

With the change complete, you are ready to resume your travels. Roll on.
