Do boards come from the factory ready to ride, or do I need to wax it first?
We employ a robot [and an army of people] that go through great lengths to ensure every board leaves the factory waxed, buffed, finessed, and shred-ready. Our Microfinish process involves over 30 finishing steps, including a robotic edge tune and detune, that puts the right amount of sharpness and bevel to each board to ensure the perfect finish for all riding styles and conditions.
After Microfinishing comes Enduro Waxing. Each board is waxed and hot-buffed for a shiny, super fast ride right out of the shop. Boards built at our manufacturing center in Austria harness the glide and durability of a 5:1 eco-wax mix containing beeswax, carnauba, and soy oil. Despite all this, we still recommend that you tune your board on a regular basis to ensure optimal performance. Check out all our tools and tuning gear here.

What is the Chill program?
Chill is a nonprofit learn-to-ride program for at-risk inner-city kids. Every year, we take over 100 kids from each city to the slopes, beach and skate parks and provide them with everything they need to learn to ride: lift tickets, lessons, transportation, and head-to-toe gear. Kids want to learn these board sports because it's fun, but it takes several lessons and lots of hard work to learn. We use these board sports to help kids accomplish goals they never thought they could while teaching them some of the most important lessons of life's; patience, persistence, responsibility, courage, integrity, and pride- all through positive adult role models who treat the kids with respect and encouragement. This year alone, Chill will serve over 1,200 disadvantaged boys and girls in 14 North American cities and Sydney, Australia this winter. For more info, visit the Chill section of the site.

No. We are a privately held company with no future plans to go public.
I'm doing a school project on Burton Snowboards and I need info about the company and its history. Can you help me get an A?
While we can't guarantee you'll get an A, you can check out the Company History section. It'd be cool if your homework was as perfect as that backside 7, but due to the fact that we are a private company, we do not release any financial records, trade secrets or contact info for our employees.
How do I get sponsored?
Getting sponsored by Burton isn’t easy, but it's not necessarily impossible.
Send us your "portfolio" (Rider's resume: action shots, contest results, magazine coverage, photos, and video). Include a letter explaining yourself. There are tons of riders of all ages that are looking to make the first step into a pro career, and it's flattering for them to approach Burton as their source for gear and support. Unfortunately, we cannot sponsor everyone. We have to be selective and search for specific qualities we look for in riders for the Burton Team.
Burton's Worldwide Team of riders all began as young rippers in their own respective areas: The Northwest, Tahoe, East Coast, Southern California, etc... All sponsorships begin on this regional level with Burton. We have a network or Burton Representatives out there who are always scoping new talent in their regions. You should be looking to begin your career by dominating your local scene, at any age, whether it is a small park in Minnesota or the Aspen Snowboard Team in Colorado. If you stand out at your local mountain, people will notice and you will be on your way. This is when you should be thinking about sponsorship and how to get there. This is also the time for you to be improving your riding and progressing every day you are on snow.
Continue to learn new tricks and expand your riding. And be safe doing it. When your results and your riding are at a level that stands out nationally, it is time to contact Burton directly. Send us your latest results, photos, video and a letter explaining yourself. Make it good. Your first impression is very important. Send it to:

We will check out all of your materials, and should be able to answer your request quickly. Do not be discouraged if your request is denied for sponsorship. All it means is that you have some better riding inside that has yet to be discovered. Continue to work on your riding in the areas that you like most. Eventually, hard work and tons of riding will be noticed, and hopefully you will be a step closer. We look forward to seeing your best stuff. And wish you luck and much snow in all of your riding endeavors.
